Welcome
I have been involved in the food and drink industry as professional taster and writer since the early 1990s, chewing, slurping and spitting more than 100,000 food and drink products.
It was as drinks writer for Scotland on Sunday that, in the autumn of 2003 I compiled a Winter Wine Guide; a list of the best (and worst) quality and value wine to be found on the shelves of the supermarkets and large retailers.
Astounded store managers and shoppers reported that wines I had rated highly had been stripped from the shelves within 24 hours. The Summer Wine Guide followed with similar success.
It seemed then, that consumers were as passionate about quality and value for money as I was; so the idea for the Supermarket Own Brand Guide to food and drink was born.
The Vintage of the Century - Claret from 2005 Vintage
The 2005 is the vintage of the century, and
may prove to be the vintage of the last as well. The prices of the very
best wines will continue to soar, as demand outstrips supply. The big
stars of the Left Bank & Right Bank were Ch. Margaux & Ch. Pétrus. Click here for the tasting notes and scores
